Project Spotlight - Phoenix Sky Harbor Terminal 4
If you’ve flown out of Phoenix in the past couple of years, there’s an excellent chance you have already experienced our next Project Spotlight feature.
We worked with Corgan and SmithGroup to develop a custom baffled ceiling for the development of the new S-1 Concourse at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, the final development envelope within the Terminal 4 complex. This 275,000 sf, $310 million facility opened in Summer 2022 and employs the latest state-of-the-art technology and successfully diverted 95% of all construction wastes from landfills.
Loop collaborated with Arktura to create the baffled ceiling design, inspired by the nearby Imperial Sand Dunes and parametrically modeled to emulate the soft flowing curves of the geologic forms unique to Arizona. Arktura used a material made from recycled plastic bottles. Other sustainable features of this project included walls comprised of sustainable paper, millions of pounds of recycled concrete and rebar, and charging stations for electric ground service vehicles.
The resulting project earned the Innovation Award by the Airports Council in the annual Environmental Achievement Awards program and achieved LEED Certification.
